Our prediction for this EFL Cup match:
Chelsea will be aiming to kick off their EFL Cup campaign in style when they host Barnsley at their Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening. Following a 3-1 win over Brighton in their Premier League opener, the Blues suffered a 2-0 loss to Liverpool at the weekend, with Andreas Christensen being sent off. The Danish defender will have to serve his ban in the Premier League match against WBA, but he is available for selection for the Barnsley game.
The Tykes, on the other hand, suffered back-to-back defeats to the likes of Luton and Reading at the start of the new Championship campaign. Barnsley have been struggling in front of goal of late, and they are unlikely to spoil Chelsea’s party at Stamford Bridge. When the two teams met in the FA Cup twelve years ago Barnsley eliminated Chelsea, meaning that Frank Lampard’s troops are hungry for revenge.
